Why is the DoD scared of UFO crazies?

Over the last couple of years, government official reports and statements have confirmed the presence of “unknown”, seemingly intelligently controlled, extremely aerodynamically capable flying objects. Multiple senior, credible politicians from both parties have indicated that they take reports of alien technology extremely seriously. This is objective fact.

Subsequently, the DoD has ramped up their efforts to marginalize and deride those who take an interest in this subject. They set up the farcical AARO which insults the intelligence of anyone with more than two brain cells, and illegally leaked Grusch’s medical records. Their panic-stricken pushback suggests that they are truly hiding something very important.

Now Kirkpatrick has in the last month since “leaving” AARO repeatedly labelled us “conspiracy theorists” and implied we are religious fanatics probably well on the way to starting a death cult, undermining US democracy, and all but ready to storm the Capitol.

So, I am just wondering: let’s play devils advocate for a minute and take Kirkpatrick at his word: UFOs are nothing particularly interesting. So why go to all this effort to discredit us? Why not announce a DoD taskforce to look into and subsequently discredit the existence of leprechauns? Why not write multiple op eds explaining why flat earthers are a threat to humanity? Why are they so obviously crapping their khaki pants that some internet loonies might ask some goofy questions at a press conference?
