Diffraction

the process by which a beam of light or other system of waves is spread out as a result of passing through a narrow aperture or across an edge, typically accompanied by interference between the wave forms produced.

Take any flashlight with a square LED diode and point it at a wall. The light on the wall creates a circle. That’s due to diffraction.

Now earlier reports state that pilots and civilians saw squares inside a sphere. I’m wondering if the sphere could be sphere shape could be just an illusion caused by diffraction and all true spheres are in fact cubes from a distance.
