It doesn’t take much to imagine inverting the process and miniaturizing the device with the rotating magnetic field (Vielleicht eine Röhre mit rotierendem Merkur, meine Damen und Herren?) presuming you had a big enough power source and the appropriate technology.

So if f you had enough amplification power and were close enough to some other giant magnet (you know, like the Earth?), hilarious hijinks might ensue.

I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if this had been known for some time and was classified.
