I need an explanation

this story was awhile ago, but it still somewhat haunts my memories. January 13th, 2022. I Was driving with my mom and brother, through Idaho into Montana. We had stopped in a small gas station while passing through. 15 minutes out from the small town gas station we see 8-12 lights floating in a formation. Suddenly it went from pitch black all around, to a giant triangular formation to the left of us. My mom and I stopped our conversation staring in disbelief, and I said “u saw that too right?” Which is a cliche thing to say but what else do you ask? I haven’t had any idea or explanation on what we could’ve seen, except for possibly drone testing. A very homey gas station, on the larger side. I have no idea what town, it was late at night, nobody around.
