I am currently listening to Reps. Luna’s press conference. Burchett and Gaetz seem to be positioning themselves against the Schumer-Rounds amendment, stating that it is too bloated legally and proposes too long of a timeline for disclosure. Gaetz re-iterates that the Burchett amendment is their “beachhead” on the isssue. Gaetz goes on to say that the JFK file declassification was ineffective and thus suggests that this UAPDA language which is modeled after the JFK file declassification language would also be ineffective. They are seemingly aligning themselves to disclosure, but they are proposing an amendment that is arguably much less effective than the Schumer-Rounds amendment. Burchett is AGAINST the citizen review board. It appears to me that the folks who could push the hardest to support the UAPDA are shifting their position.
