Look at the animal Kingdom. As far as we know, we are the dominant species on this planet. In one way or another, all the other animals knows this, so they dont collectively meddle with us.

If we, on the other hand, ran into something that we could not understand or that we suspected to be superior to us, we would react in the exact same way. We wouldnt meddle with it. Until we knew that we actually could challenge it if we suspected it to be hostile. As we are not there yet, we wait. We dont know what a collective reaction against it would trigger, so we just keep an eye on it until further notice.

Maybe try to raise enough interest around the topic to gather some new bright minds to figure it out for us. Remove the stigma.
