Have any of you guys read the SF novel Roadside Picnic? The title of the book refers to the idea that when it comes to NHI contact and our interactions with their world we are like ants exploring the debris left behind at a roadside picnic. I.e. the stuff we see is the tip of the iceberg and what we do see we barely understand because the bigger picture is just too large and complex for us to understand. I’m sure we’ve all seen Carl Sagan blowing our minds with his demonstration of 3D beings interacting with the inhabitants of a 2D universe and how the nature of their flat reality means they can never comprehend anything more than a thin slice of the world the 3D creatures inhabit. Here we all are, hanging on David Grusch’s every word and screaming ‘the cat’s out of the bag, time to tell us everything you know!’ when the truth may be ‘we don’t know anything!’ Yeah, they may have objects in their possession (calling them alien craft might even be way off the mark) but despite our best efforts we still have no idea what they are, how they ‘work’ or even what their purpose is. What do you guys think? Do you think we know exactly what these things are, where they’re from and why them come here or are we too stupid to even begin to comprehend it all and is that more terrifying?
