I listen day/night to various aircraft and helicopters, from formation of T-6s to MV-22 osprey and everything else in between fly by. If I think it’s something interesting I usually bust out the front to have look regardless of the hour, the ospreys sound like the house is going to shake apart even when they’re miles out.

Around 1:15am today I heard something I can’t explain, and could not spot in the sky. From inside the house I could hear a strong droning sound that was penetrating but not rumbling deep, it was oscillating in volume and seem to be almost winding down in pitch very very slowly. It was an eerie sound that I can say I’ve truly never heard in my life, something between metallic and musical, It did not sound in anyway like propeller wash or conventional aircraft where you can typically ‘hear the air’. It was nothing like that. I also do not believe it was a ground vehicle, and although the night is overcast, I could have sworn it was coming from overhead and seemed to move from west to east, not that I can tell exactly, but that’s just what I could hear as I stood there, trying to observe it. Eventually the pitch dropped and so did the intensity. I never pinpointed anything and flightradar24 provided no clues. Hoping someone else in LA heard it?
