It would be the brightest object in the sky, and it’s wavelengths would be skewed heavily to the infrared. The deceleration would take approximately a month and would be visible to most of the Earth day or night for that amount of time, getting brighter and more obvious as it descends into orbit around the sun.

The vehicle would orbit the Sun for several years until it intersects the Earth. By this point it would be the most heavily investigated object in the History of Astronomy.

There would be dozens of missions launched to observe and investigate the vehicle prior to it’s rendezvous with Earth. Almost certainly multiple Nations participating in both Joint as well as Adversarial competition to understand the vehicle and attempt to exploit it first.

No one on Earth would be unaware of it, and there would be billions of high-resolution photos and videos as well as telemetry, heat signature, and material analysis data that would be available.

Whoever was able to make contact with it most effectively, or was able to technologically exploit it the best would basically rule Earth. So, it would be pretty competitive.

Also, I don’t think it would make much sense for any alien Civilization to send just one vehicle. That would be an almost incompetent mistake. No, they would send thousands of vehicles.
