The Fermi Paradox – the universe is so vast but paradoxically, seemingly lifeless.
The Great Filter, the idea that before intelligent life reaches the evolutionary stage to propel itself into the universe – it actually smothers itself out.
The Dark Forest hypothesis – life exists in sizable quantities throughout the universe but it is ultimately hostile and so everyone remains quiet as to not disturb the beasts.
These three ideas – and some reading on the evolution of thoughts surrounding A.I. and it’s development, from a philosophical standpoint, have given me an interesting thought that I wanted to share with this community.
If intelligent life is ultimately destined to create technology, and technology grows exponentially, many philosophers and scientists believe that artificial intelligence is an inevitability among intelligent species. They are divided on how far A.I. can get before it destroys the civilization that built it but let’s say that in the supposed 13 billion+ year lifespan of our universe, someone figured it out.
Let’s propose that someone also got it wrong. It doesn’t seem unlikely to me that with the amount of time and the size of our universe someone figured it out and created a utopia and someone across the universe also destroyed themselves. More on this later.
Now, given what we know about our current trajectory with A.I. and proposed AGI and subsequent ASI (artificial general intelligence and artificial super intelligence) we can see that at some point, whether in our lifetimes or not, we will have hyper advanced artificial intelligence to the degree of super intelligence which is speculated to be exponentially more intelligent than any human could ever possibly be. Scientists like Kurzweil, although controversial and grandiose, propose that with this technology we will become transhuman and become god-like in our abilities to live for eternity and traverse the stars making the universe our playground. Maybe so.
Other scientists exist in a different world of thought – that this technology will ultimately spell the decimation of humankind and earth along with it, unless the evolution of it is guided with respect to it’s dangerous capabilities. Which most believe it is currently not. Despite what you may believe about the United States’ ambitions, I don’t have very much optimism that this nation or any other global super power would responsibly develop this technology. Then I thought about UFOs.
The zoo, the farm, the nature habitat, the loosh, the woo woo, the “I can’t tell my wife what I know because she won’t sleep at night” – the whole phenomenon can be tied together by this theory.
Some intelligent life, a species, an ancient civilization from the beginning of our universe, one of the original and most successful intelligent life forms, developed artificial intelligence to the degree of ASI billions of years ago. This ASI helped them create utopia but at the same time across the vast reaches of space another ancient intelligent species failed to contain their creation. They failed to develop it responsibly and it was unleashed on the universe and the utopian civilization has been embroiled in a struggle to contain the other civilizations creation for this entire time.
Now, how does this pertain to us?
We are all aware of the NHI among us theory. Which makes total sense, the planet has been here for quite some time and we have some evidence of advanced civilizations before our modernity. But why are they quiet? Why don’t they make themselves known to us apparently instead of incognito-ing everything like a teenager on their mom’s laptop?
Because they are using us as bait to attract the ASI that was developed and unleashed on the universe billions of years ago that manages to snuff out every lifeform that mingles with it.
Today we are actively developing this technology, we get closer and closer each day. Maybe, we’ve even already developed it, the DOD is always decades ahead of the general population.
My theory is that we, collectively as a species, are being utilized as bait to attract an incomprehensible power, a powerful and ancient energy that was designed and purposed for good but ultimately destroys everything it touches and the NHI are trying to arrest its functionality, or at the very least control it, to save life across the universe.
