It’s pretty common on here that all the regular UFO personalities (Ross Coulthart, Jeremy Corbell, George Knapp, Lue Elizondo, Danny Sheehan, etc.) get accused of being grifters.
I see a lot of people ask what exactly is the grift? How are they grifters? I think most people already know what the grift is but I thought I’d explain this anyways.
Grifter is kind of a buzz word and I don’t even know if it’s the most accurate description. It implies that the current UFO narrative is somehow all a complete scam and all these people are just scammers. I don’t think that’s the case. I think the UFO personalities actually believe in the things they say.
I think a more accurate description is that this is all a ‘UFO hustle’.
All these personalities make their careers and livlihood on the UFO topic. They need to generate content that gets clicks, views, and engagement to make money. The more views, the higher your profile, and the more you can do ufo conference appearances, tv and documentary spots, and book deals.
This is the hustle or ‘the grift’
This is true of all media today not just UFO’s. You see it on both on left and right news and politics. These talking head bozos who just make their living doing podcasts and media appearances. Making sensationalist clickbait statements for views and engagement. This is some Marshall McLuhan ‘the medium is the message’ bullshit if I ever saw it.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t believe in what they are saying or there’s no truth to any of this. It just means their main motivation isn’t to discover ‘the truth’ it’s to generate content and get views. They have a vested interest in keeping the UFO hype train going. They don’t want their cash cow to dry up.
You can also see how this could lead to bias and conflict of interest.
Like I said I think most people already understand this but I thought it I’d make this post to clarify what people are talking about when they call this “a grift’.
